The overview tour presents, in an accessible form, the main periods and themes in the history of medicine. As you explore the exhibition you will immerse yourself in the past world of the art of healing. You will learn how the science and practice of this important field developed on Ukrainian lands from the earliest times to the present day. The guide's account will carry you between eras and countries and span a great many medical specialties.

The exhibition is arranged chronologically and comprises three halls:

IHall one

The ancient history of Ukraine, the era of the Kyivan state, the history of the Cossacks, the founding of the first medical schools, pages of zemstvo medicine, the basics of sanitary education, and pharmacy.

IIHall two

The creation of medical faculties at universities; the history of anatomy, pathology, surgery, obstetrics and internal medicine. Also covered are military field medicine, the fight against infectious diseases (epidemiology and microbiology), and medical patrons.

IIIHall three

The early 20th century, the Holodomor of 1932–1933 and Stalinist repressions, medical aid during the Second World War, Ukrainians' contribution to world medicine, the Chornobyl disaster and its medical consequences, and the modern period — the creation of specialised medical research institutes and medical aid during the Russo-Ukrainian war.

You will discover medicine anew — through the prism of historical events and inventions, learn about outstanding physicians and striking facts, and see unique photographs, documents, medical instruments, works of art and lifelike human figures made of plastic materials.

While exploring the museum's exhibition, and thanks to the guide's engaging narration, visitors gain rich and varied information and a better understanding of the historical context. The objects reveal their secrets, while the interactive displays, interiors and dioramas help find answers to the difficult questions society faces in the 21st century.

Group of 5 to 25 people. Up to 50 people can be admitted at once (then two groups of 25 run in parallel).

During an air-raid alert the museum and the escape room are closed.

What people say

On my way to the museum I thought it would be an ordinary, dull tour. But how glad I am that I was wrong! A very engaging story from the guide and a lovely idea with the audio accompaniment. Thank you for the chance to spend at least an hour immersed in the times when medicine was only just being born.

Lida Platonova

We visited the museum with our pupils. Despite the large amount of information, the children didn't even get tired — they loved it. Later we came back and took part in the escape room: we had to rack our brains, but we got a huge amount of positive emotion. Thank you so much for everything you did for us!

Miss Smile

A very interesting tour! A few hours in one breath. A rich collection, moving display cases, audio and video accompaniment. Interesting for children and adults alike.
